I bought this as a replacement for a Kensington FM Transmitter. I had recently bought a iPod Nano 5th Gen and my old transmitter wouldn't charge it because it was incompatible. So I went shopping for a new transmitter, and decided to find something that could run off the iPods battery as well as having the option to be plugged in for power. Which is how I ended up with this device.
The device works pretty well for the most part, but the signal strength is not all too powerful. The SmartScan feature does what its supposed to find a clear station, but is not always too accurate. A couple of tries usually gets a good station. I wouldnt expect amazing signal strength from this since its power comes from the iPod whether its plugged in or not (The option to plug it in sends power to the iPod directly, and not to the FM Transmitter).
There is an International Mode on this device, but accessing it is hidden. Setting the device to 87.7 or 87.9 really does help but there is still static sometimes. In order to get International Mode you press "Menu" until you get the option to reset the device. Once you see the option for reset appears press and hold "Reset" for about 5 seconds. You should then be able to scroll between US, UK, or JP. Choose the one thats best for you. Of course you should only use the feature when traveling overseas :)
The Sound quality is decent, but not great. The sound from my old FM Transmitter sounds much better than this. There is a "SmartSound" feature but all it really does is increase the sounds. Switching between Stereo or Mono doesnt really help the sound either. I have noticed that sound does get a little weird sometimes and tends to change in volume every now and then.
The device buttons are solid, and navigation through the menus is simple. The design is nice and stylish. Its also small enough to pocket and travel with. The option to display the song title and have some playback controls is nice for those using an iPhone or iPod Touch. The only real complaint I have on design is when the device is plugged in it doesnt sit flush with the iPod you are using because of the rounded edges. This can give a somewhat flimsy feeling to it and can make me worried that it will become unplugged or break off.
The app for the iPhone is simple and easy to use. Whenever you plug it in it automatically ask you if youd like to download and install the software which is nice. Theres not much to the app other than tuning, presets, and audio control. The app itself seems more like a gimmick to me. I dont really consider it necessary since its just as easy to control the device from its on board buttons.
The last thing I have to say isnt really a complaint but more of a "heads up". Most FM Transmitters when unplugged will pause your iPod, and eventually the iPod will turn off. This particular one does not pause when you unplug power, or when you unplug the device itself. So remember to turn off your iPod on your own or else you have a dead battery!

I bought this as a replacement for my iriver T60, having found the 4gb size to be a bit restrictive. This player was advertised as being a worthy opponent to ipod, and it turned out to be the case. The format of the controls takes a bit of getting used to at first, but is very simple and can be figured out without the use of the manual. Your computer reads the player as a removable mass storage device similar to a jump drive, so it's simple to load. The only glitch is that, if you want to play video on it you will need to download the jetaudio software-included with the player. I didn't utilise this because I already have itunes, and have no interest in using the player for video playback. The sound quality is top notch, as you'd expect and there are multiple options for fine tuning to your personal preferences. I've found that the 'hold' button is essential with this player, due to the sensitivity of the touch interface. It should be noted that I use this player at work primarily, and so toughness was a major factor for me. I purchased this little BackupBattery/Stand yesterday at the Brookstone store in the Charlotte NC airport and am absolutely delighted! I have the Kensington backup battery, which is also quite good, but this device is smaller and doesn't require a cord. I find that I use the stand feature every day to keep the phone (and battery) charged while my iPhone 3Gs sits next to my laptop. I may even get a second one to keep on my night stand, and my wife seems to want one too. If I find any shortcomings, I will revise this review. I would also like it even better if a future redesign allowed the stand to be folded against the iPhone so the whole assembly could be carried in a shirt pocket. As it is, the combo works find in a jacket pocket, but not a shirt.

I bought this on impulse about a year ago, after reading favorable reviews in a gadget magazine. I'm generally pleased with it, though it gets a few funny looks from visitors sometimes. The sound coming out of it is indeed very good and fills the room, so if you're looking for an unusual iPod dock, this is a good item to consider either as a gift or for yourself. I like to put my iPod Touch in here and listen to Beethoven or some other classical music while I cook. I have also listened to a variety of music on it, including rock, metal, electronica, and hip-hop and have no complaints about the sound quality.
The iPig is very easy to use. Just plug it in and dock your iPod to it. It comes with a variety of cradle adapters and charges the iPod while docked. The ears are touch sensitive and control volume. Left ear lowers the volume. Right ear makes it louder. The mouth blinks green in response. If your hands are wet, it won't work. One thing I don't like is the flat, credit-card type remote, as all the buttons are packed together in a smaller area. It uses a lithium button battery like CR 2025 3 Volt Lithium Button Battery for Directed Electronics 598T Remote Control Transmitters and other uses or Maxell Lithium Battery CR2032 Pack of 5 Batteries. There's no compartment or clasp to store it on the iPig, so it can be easy to lose.
Construction-wise, the iPig is very solid and has a good heft to it. Made of thick shiny plastic, it feels sturdy and substantial. The surfaces are smooth and sealed, making it easy to clean with a moist towel if it ever gets dirty.
One potential issue is with iPod Touch owners. Because of the depth of the docking bay, the bottom of the Touch's screen is slightly blocked, making the unlock control on the iPod a bit difficult to slide with your finger. Another small issue is the two VERY SMALL controls on the back. One is the ON/OFF tab. Slide the tiny tab to one side for on, the other for off. To the left of it is the bass level knob, a small dial less than the size of an eraser head. It doesn't protrude out very much, so gripping it is a slight issue. Both of these buttons should be bigger and more ruggedized. However, these minor design flaws don't detract from the overall value and usefulness of the iPig.
It's a fun little gadget, if a bit creepy looking. (It looks more like a spider than a pig to me.) It doesn't take up a lot of space and it's very portable. I've taken it outside for a BBQ party and it received complements for delivering big sound in spite of its small size. I bought 2 of these cases for our Zen Vision Ms. They add just enough extra cushioning to help the device survive minor bumps and drops. It is really easy to slide on the player and it stays put. The buttons light up through the silicone casing. Unlike other cases, this one fits like a glove and the keys are easily accesible. I don't recommend wearing this around your arm, waist, or neck (with a lanyard) because the case is too stretchy and I'm worried it could tear. This is just good enough for general use and at this price, that's acceptable.

When searching for a new mp3 player the trail always leads me back to Sony. Its more about overall quality then brand loyalty. Over the years Sony's Walkman line has gone the distance and more. The all new Sony S Series Walkman adds to the legacy.
The S-540 8gb Walkman brings it on with a crisp, color enhanced 2.4" LCD screen that is easy on the eyes. At 2" x 4" x .4", it comes in a bit larger then its older cousin. A larger body undoubtedly is required to provide support for the external speaker system. The speakers won't get confused with my home system anytime soon but they do provide an excellent source. With headphones on, this mp3 player delivers a cornucopia of sound. Missing but not that noticeable is the noise reduction feature. The on board equalizer can be tweaked to one's own preferences or users can choose one of the six presets.
The Navigation pad located directly under the screen is a breeze to operate. Two controls are located on the side. One locks in the controls. The second one allows for easy switching from speaker to headset. The standard headphone jack and a USB port can be found on the bottom of the unit. The detachable flip out stand is an okay feature that allows for easy standing on my desk or shelf top. I would have preferred that it was permanently mounted.
The S-540 supports mp3, mp4, AAC, AVC, WMV, WMA, and PCM. PCM is Sony's version of WAV. Napster and Rhapsody music subscriptions are also supported. According to the Sony website, Amazon video is now supported. I haven't downloaded video. I did download a couple of photographs on this model. The display was outstanding. Unlike my older Walkman, this model doesn't offer the wallpaper photo display option.
The built in FM tuner picked up all ten of my stations. With auto scanner functionality, thirty preset slots are available. The FM radio is crystal clear when using the headset as an antenna. The alarm clock feature is a nice add on. I can set the unit to wake me up to a particular song or the radio. The sleep timer function works great. Most iPhone/iPod cases add bulk and actually introduce scratches when you put them on and take them off. They also seem to trap lint, dirt, etc. between the case and the iPod/iPhone, which can also cause scratching. And they cover up the beauty and ergonomics of the devices.
I'm not prone to dropping things and I like to use naked iPods, iPhones, etc. So I went the sleeve route for protection.
I've tried other sleeves and they were too bulky and caused scratches from being too tight. I also tried the Boa for a week. It was very slim but it was too tight and took forever to get my iPhone out of it.
The socks fit all my iPods and my iPhone. The fabric keeps scratches from items in your pockets or purse away and cleans the oils and dirt from my iPhone 3G. They barely add any bulk, and they are not too loose or too tight.
I initially bought a set for $10 from one of the other vendors on Amazon. They sent me some knock-offs called iPod Nano Tubes. They were not as soft as the real ones and were too small for the iPhone. I went to the Apple store and got the originals.
After wasting money on other cases, I feel $30 for 6 socks is OK. The reasons being I am happy with the socks and I will probably not need to buy any more cases ever again even if I upgrade my devices. I cannot recommend this product to anyone who's thinking of putting it in their bedroom. While the display has 3 settings, it does not turn off, and the lowest setting of the blue display glows quite bright at night. Its a very poor design. Additionally, the volume control is a random 17 positions that is just not granular enough. When it was next to my bed 4 was too soft - 5 was too loud. When I moved it, I had the same problem between 5 and 6. Where's an infinite rheostat when you need one? Or a digital volume control from 1-100? We bought these over 2 years ago. They got a lot of use and still working like new.
I wear hearing aids. Two features I would highly recommend to anybody with my reduced hearing.
1) Most critical, the sound is excellent. Our TV is hooked to it. I can understand what's being said better than with any other audio system, and I've tried many. My daughter has a full blown 5.1 system and I have problems when listening to it.
2) The ability to place the speakers closer to myself when I don't use my hearing aids; allows me to hear clearly without anoying my family. They are about 12' away normally. We take them in the kitchen when preparing meals.
